There is an increasing recognition of the importance of focusing on just and inclusive energy transitions as countries across the globe seek to accelerate their energy transitions to meet their development and climate objectives.
Responding to a growing call among Members during the 11th session of the IRENA Assembly to address more strongly the equity and justice elements of the energy transition, the Collaborative Framework on ‘Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions’ has been established. The framework aims to bring countries and other relevant stakeholders together to identify priority areas, concrete actions and foster international collaboration to understand how to promote and support just and inclusive energy transitions.
The first meeting of the Collaborative Framework took place on 20 May 2021 at which IRENA’s Members discussed the modalities and possible initial focus areas for the framework as well as whether to open the framework to different stakeholders.
