IRENA at the 138th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly

From 14 - 18 October 2018, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) actively engaged with Parliamentarians during the 138th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the global Organisation of 178 national Member Parliaments in Geneva. The deployment of sustainable, reliable and affordable energy for all has been widely recognised as a key pillar of the global 2030 Sustainable Development agenda and one of the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs). In Geneva, discussion forged ahead on the first-ever renewables-focused IPU resolution ‘Engaging the private sector in implementing the SDGs, especially on renewable energy’ which was adopted earlier this year.

During Assembly week, IRENA provided input to committees and panel discussions. IRENA’s booth provided a platform to engage with parties for knowledge sharing, networking and exploring options how to accelerate the sustainable energy transformation globally.
