Off-grid Renewable Energy Statistics Online Conference

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is pleased to announce that the submission deadline for the Off-grid Renewable Energy Statistics (ORES) Online Conference has been extended. The ORES Conference will provide a forum to discuss how some of the challenges to collecting off-grid energy data might be overcome. The conference will be open for anyone to participate with a main target audience of people responsible for collecting, reporting or using off-grid energy statistics within governments, the private-sector, NGOs and international organisations.

See the concept note of the conference for more information.

Call For Proposals

For this conference, IRENA is interested in soliciting a broad range of voluntary presentations on any aspect of off-grid data collection. Below is a list of suggested topics that are within the scope of the conference (but all relevant proposals will be considered):

  • Off-grid energy survey design and data collection techniques.
  • Collection and use of administrative data to produce off-grid statistics.
  • Off-grid energy data standards, classification systems, measurement and estimation techniques.
  • Collaborative efforts to collect off-grid data through partnerships and data sharing agreements.
  • Off-grid data collection in policy and project development, monitoring and evaluation.

Proposed presentations can cover any type of renewable energy (hydro, solar, wind, bioenergy, etc.) but should preferably cover both technical or statistical issues, as well as institutional or organisational arrangements that have facilitated the successful collection of off-grid data.

Anyone wishing to submit a proposed presentation should send an email to Statistics@irena.org with the subject line “2021 ORES Proposal”, by Friday, 22 January 2021. The proposal should include:

  1. 1. Presentation title
  2. 2. Presentation abstract (300 word maximum)
  3. 3. Up to 5 keywords
  4. 4. A note of any requirements beyond a standard PowerPoint presentation (if required – e.g. live demonstration of a webpage or online tool, video, etc.)

All proposals for voluntary presentations will be reviewed and a final selection will be made in January 2021, after which the presentations will be recorded (by 4 February) for use at the conference.
