World Wind Energy Award for IRENA

Every year, the World Wind Energy Award is presented to personalities and organizations making an extraordinary contribution to the development of the international wind sector.

This year, the World Wind Energy Association presented the award to IRENA’s founding Member States at the World Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition, in Istanbul, Turkey on June 15.

Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the International Renewable Energy Agency - IRENA - aims to become the global voice for renewable energy, while promoting a swift transition towards its sustainable use. IRENA is assisting its Member States define their strategy across the fields of all renewable energies: bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind.”

In accepting the Award on behalf of the founding Member States, Interim Director-General Helene Pelosse said, “It is a great honor for IRENA to be the recipient of such an award and I accept it on behalf of member states and of those who have lobbied for years to make it happen.I thank each and every one of our delegates for their contribution. They have been closely involved in all aspects of IRENA’s operations to date, and will be vital to our future direction. “.

As of June 8, 25 countries have ratified the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) statute. On July 8 the statute will enter into force and the Agency will become a fully fledged international organization
