As climate change vulnerability and sustainable development challenges are becoming more apparent and urgent, islands around the globe are leading the way in renewable energy solutions and serve as laboratories for transformational clean energy shifts. IRENA, the European Commission, and the governments of the Maldives, Balearic Islands, and Reunion Island will share the latest tailor-made solutions for the decarbonisation of islands. We’ll also be presenting the various tools and platforms available to support the energy transformation in islands.
Corporate sourcing of renewables in 2017 was almost equal to France’s total electricity demand. With the right policy framework in place, this growing corporate demand for renewable energy has the potential to accelerate the energy transition and contribute to meeting climate targets. IRENA will be joined by Google, SolarPower Europe, IKEA, enel and BT, and we’ll be sharing some of the key findings of our new Corporate Sourcing of Renewables study.
