The following is a statement from IRENA Director-General Adnan Z. Amin on the completion of the first circumnavigation of the globe by the Solar Impulse solar-powered airplane today in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates:
According to a new report released today by IRENA, Germany is on track to realising its 2030 renewable energy targets. To meet even higher shares of renewables, the deployment of renewable heating and transport technologies needs to be accelerated.
Advanced biofuels, biomethane and electric vehicles could out-compete conventional transport options like gasoline by the end of the decade, if support policies are enhanced and expanded to get these sustainable renewable energy options rolling.
