IRENA-Latin America Energy Organization (OLADE) Workshop: Geothermal Energy Development in the Andea

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Latin America Energy Organization (OLADE) launched an initiative to improve access to geothermal energy in the Andean Region. To discuss the main barriers and forge a path forward, IRENA and OLADE conducted a multi-stakeholder workshop, “Geothermal Energy Development in the Andean Region,” on 4-5 March in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The workshop coincided with the Iceland Geothermal Conference for 2013, on 5-8 March. Discussions were based on preliminary country reports prepared for the workshop, outlining barriers to geothermal development in the Andes. The initiative, supported with expertise from Iceland, Mexico, New Zealand, France and the International Geothermal Organization (IGA), aims to contribute to the development of the vast geothermal potential in this region.
