At this workshop, twenty-four delegates from nine countries in Southern Africa shared their experiences with the collection of renewable energy statistics. Participants included representatives of national statistical offices, energy ministries and electricity companies. IRENA also provided training on renewable energy data collection and the compilation of energy statistics, including construction of national renewable energy balances. Other topics covered at the workshop included: renewable energy costs; resource assessment; energy production from bagasse (field trip); and estimation of renewable energy production from international trade statistics about imports of equipment (solar panels and solar water heaters). IRENA gratefully acknowledges the support given by the Swaziland Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy in agreeing to host this workshop.
